Holiday Food and Gift Drive [2020]

UPDATE:   We are very happy and extremely proud to announce the success of our neighbourhood’s 5th annual Holiday Food Drive.   The hard work of many families and the incredible generosity of all residents living in Watercolours resulted in approximately 7,000 lbs of food and toiletries being donated to our local food bank, The Compass.  On behalf of our Lorne Park Watercolours Residents’ Association and on behalf of The Compass Board, staff, volunteers and clients, Thank You for your extremely generous donations.   This food will feed the most vulnerable people in our community this holiday season.

Watermain Construction Notice

The Region of Peel’s Public Works Department are undertaking water system improvements on South Sheridan Way and Indian Grove with construction slated to begin February 2021 that may affect your travel routes.

Representatives from the Region of Peel and the City of Mississauga will be on Indian Grove from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday November 2, 2020 (rain date Monday November 9, 2020).  They will be there to answer any questions you may have about upcoming construction. The street visit is drop in, please come when it is convenient.

Waste Collection: Bulk Items Update

The curbside collection of bulky items resumed June 29, 2020.  Community Recycling Centres are now also accepting bulky items.  As social distancing measures continue on-site, staff are not available to unload items and wait times may be longer. The Region is also continuing to work with the local municipalities to monitor for and pick up illegally dumped items.   Residents who observe illegal dumping are encouraged to report as much information as possible including the date, time and location of the incident. They can do so anonymously by also calling 905-791-9499.

Masks Required Inside Public Places

On June 30, 2020,  the Region of Peel's Medical Officer along with the Mayors of Brampton, Mississauga and the Town of Caledon announced plans to explore measures help prevent the spread of Covid-19.   One of those measures was to enact a temporary law requiring all residents to wear a non-medical mask inside public places.

The Government of Ontario is gradually reopening businesses, services and public spaces on a regional basis as progress is made in the fight against COVID-19. The City of Mississauga is in Stage 2 as of June 24, 2020. Any reopening plans or changes to current closures will be communicated through the City’s website and social media channels.

A 4th Tele Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. to address resident concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.   In consultation with Peel Public Health, Mississauga is actively planning a measured and phased approach to reopening facilities and resuming services and programs. The Tele Town Hall will provide residents with the latest updates on COVID-19 in Mississauga as well as important information on what recovery will look like in the city.

The City of Mississauga have launched a new web page that provides guidance for older residents and their caregivers to help meet their needs.  Residents can find information on symptoms and prevention, health and wellness and key emergency contacts.  You will also find useful links to help older adults and their caregivers.

A printable information sheet is also available for those that may not have access to the internet.   If you know anyone in the neighbourhood who cannot access the information online, kindly print this and share.

Park Playground Closed

UPDATE:  April 9, 2020 - Upon our request, the playground swings in our neighbourhood have now been locked and slide blocked to assist in enforcing soclal distancing rules.

Baby Monitors Needed

A healthcare provider in our community is accepting donations of baby monitors.    Hospitals are asking for donations of baby monitors so that staff can communicate with patients in isolation without having to use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) which they need to dispose of after every patient contact.   Hospitals do not have unlimited supply of PPE so if you have any old baby monitors and/or can forward this message to as many people you know we would really appreciate it.

COVID-19 Information for Residents

We recently participated in a teleconference with officials from the City of Mississauga, other residents associations and medical personnel to discuss the growing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.   The teleconference was initiated by the Mayor's office to give us an opportunity to gather information and voice concerns.   The discussion concluded with plans to remain in contact with the city on a regular basis  with the aim to keep the communication channel open between the city and residents.  In a nutshell, The City is looking to us as an association to be the eyes and ears for our residents.   To that end, we wanted to highlight the items we have in place to connect with you:

UPDATE:  Thanks to you generosity along with the amazing team of volunteers we collected  4500lbs. of food and gifts!   

In 2016, with your help we were able to collect over 2000 lbs. of food and gifts for families in need.   In 2017, your generosity resulted in over 4000lbs. worth of goods.   Last year we collected an oustanding 5400lbs!
